Leak Detection & Watermark Tracing
When unreleased content or a live feed appears online, the first question is where it came from. Ayatii helps you detect leaks quickly, read the watermarks embedded in leaked copies and assemble the evidence needed to close the source and decide on next steps with your counsel.
METHODOLOGY
Our Leak Detection and Tracing Methodology
A leak investigation needs speed at the start and care at the end. The four steps below separate the urgent work from the evidential work.
Detect
We watch for unreleased or restricted material in the places leaks usually surface, including forums, messaging groups, file hosts and pirate sites. Early detection narrows the list of people who could have had access.
Preserve
The leaked copy is captured in its original form along with where, when and how it was found. Keeping an unaltered file matters because any re-encoding can damage the watermark.
Analyze
Where your content carries forensic watermarks, the leaked copy is examined to recover the identifier. The result is matched against your distribution records to indicate which recipient, account or session it was assigned to.
Act and Report
We remove the leak where possible and give you a written record of the findings. Decisions about the recipient, contractual steps or legal action remain with you and your counsel.
SERVICES
Our Leak Detection and Watermark Tracing Services
Tracing depends on both finding the leak and having something to trace. The service covers detection, analysis and advice on how content is marked.
DELIVERABLES
What Is Included in Leak Detection and Tracing
Every engagement produces a record that can stand up to questions. Scope varies with the type of content and the marking in place.
WHY US
Why Choose Ayatii for Leak Detection and Tracing
Leak work is sensitive and the evidence is easy to damage. The points below describe how we approach it.
Detection and Takedown Together
Many providers either find leaks or remove them. Because we do both, containment starts while the investigation is still under way.
Honest About Limits
Watermarks can be degraded by cropping, recording or re-encoding. We state clearly what a copy can and cannot tell us.
Discretion by Design
Pre-release material and internal findings are shared only with the contacts you name, and access to case files is restricted accordingly.
Built to Support Counsel
Our records are structured so your lawyers can review them. We do not make accusations against individuals, and we leave legal conclusions to you.
ABOUT LEAK TRACING
About Leak Detection and Watermark Tracing
A leak is the release of content before its authorised date or outside its authorised audience. Typical examples are film screeners, unfinished episodes, unreleased albums, game builds, manuscripts and live feeds captured from a licensed session.
Forensic watermarking embeds an identifier, usually invisible, into each copy or stream delivered to a recipient. If that copy later appears online, the identifier can sometimes be read from it and compared against delivery records to indicate where it was sent.
Watermarks do not prevent leaks, and recovery is never guaranteed, since quality loss and deliberate tampering can weaken them. They work best alongside access controls, rapid detection and a clear plan for what happens once a source is identified.
What Leak Tracing Can Draw On
- Forensic watermarks: unique identifiers embedded per recipient, session or distribution batch.
- Visible marks: on-screen text or overlays that name a recipient and discourage sharing.
- Distribution records: logs showing who received which version of a file and when.
- Access and session data: your own platform records for authenticated streams and downloads.
- Discovery context: where, when and in what form the leak first appeared online.
Tracing is a source of evidence, not a verdict, and conclusions about responsibility belong with the content owner and its counsel.
WHO IT APPLIES TO
Who Needs Leak Detection and Watermark Tracing
Organisations that share valuable material before its public launch carry the greatest leak risk. Three groups ask for tracing support most often.
Frequently asked questions
Can you find out who leaked our content?
If the copy carries a usable forensic watermark and you hold matching delivery records, the identifier can indicate which recipient or session it was linked to. This is evidence, not proof of wrongdoing, and results are not guaranteed.
Do you provide the watermarking technology?
We advise on where watermarking fits and can analyse leaked copies marked by the systems you use. We will tell you during scoping what we can analyse and what would need a separate technical provider.
What if the leaked copy has no watermark?
We can still detect and remove it, and record where and when it first appeared, which can narrow the list of possible sources. Without a mark, tracing to a specific recipient is much less certain.
Can recording or re-encoding remove a watermark?
Heavy compression, cropping and screen recording can weaken some watermarks, and deliberate removal attempts exist. We report what can be recovered and explain any limits in the findings.
Will you contact the person responsible?
No. We deliver findings to you and your counsel, who decide on any contact, contractual step or legal action. We do not accuse individuals or act as law enforcement.
